What a Weird World

Weird seems such a ….small word to describe what the world is going through. It’s been a long time since my last update and I apologize for that. A family medical emergency completed unrelated to the COVID-19 naturally popped up right in the middle of 60% of the world closing up shop. We’re on the other side of my personal emergency now, but I’m afraid to even contemplate how long it might be until we’re on the other side of this pandemic.

What’s Next

Barely ahead of nearly every location going into a lockdown of some form or another, I was fortunate enough to arrange for my first ever book signing for Orchids Ablaze! Unfortunately, well everyone knows the ‘unfortunately’ part… Originally scheduled for 2May as part of Free Comic Book Day, the book signing has been indefinitely postponed. A very selfish reason I admit for wanting this to be over quickly, but it’s certainly not the only reason. And that brings up the postponement of the 2019 Chanticleer International Book Awards (CIBAs) announcements. Very prudently, Chanticleer has pushed their author’s conference until the fall.

So what?

So, do I choose to make the paperback version of Orchids Ablaze available on Amazon now with the Semi-Finalist award badge? Or do I wait until the Finalists are announced later this year to see if I’ve advanced? Changing the cover of the book is relatively easy and, if the ebook was the only format, then an updated cover is easily downloaded. Once a paperback version is purchased, however, there’s no simple way to promulgate a new cover, should I be fortunate enough to be selected as a finalist.

Decisions, decisions.

And?

And I’ve decided to go ahead and make the paperback version up using the Semi-Finalist badge version. Who knows, changing the badge later might make signed editions of the original a collector’s item! Hey, everybody gets a dream, right? Look for the paperback version of Orchids Ablaze to be available on Amazon starting in April. Thanks again for all your support.

Stay safe (and healthy) out there in our weird, weird world.

I'm on my 5th or 6th career depending on how you count them, but ideally this one will be my last with the kind help of our readers. I've traveled to several states across the U.S., but the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina will always be where I'm most comfortable. I've been an avid reader of comics for more years than I'm going to mention, but I return time after time to the old pulps. Obviously the Doc Savage books have been a tremendous influence. There's just something about seeing and hearing those characters in your mind's eye, just the way YOU, as the reader, think they should be.. I've been writing poems, lyrics and stories of varying quality since I was in my teens, which means most of my archives are on paper in three-ring binders! I've been creating characters in various RPG systems for at least that long. I've always thought characters made the story: good characters can live on through story after story. It wasn't until the last 6 or 7 years that I felt I could write characters well enough to be engaging. You'll have to let me know how I'm doing.
