Starting with a bang

Fight Scenes

I don’t think it’s giving too much away at this point to say that Book 2: Chapter 1 currently is one big battle. I wanted to start things off with a, literal, bang  However, as I near the end of the first cut of Chapter 1, it is beginning to feel very long.

A Book #2 design goal was to ease the chapter word count and total word count restrictions used for Orchids Ablaze. I wanted to give myself extra room for description since these books are basically prose comic books. Several large-scale fight scenes/battles are in the plot for Book #2 so the fact that Chapter 1 already feels like it’s lagging concerns me. I still have about 30% of the fight to go!

And that’s before I’ve added the extra description pieces…

Tuarsahzi Embassy Overview

The Tuarsahzi Embassy

Located in the Lockeheart District of Aurora City, the Tuarsahzi Embassy is first mentioned in Orchids Ablaze. 16th Avenue marks its northern boundary and the complex sprawls between Dumas Boulevard and Eaglefeather Boulevard. The outdoor grounds include many amenities, including fountains, a rock garden, and a large area that replicates the native environment of the Tuarsahzi Desert. The embassy is the sovereign territory of the Tuarsahzi tribe, but certain areas are open to the public.

Up To Date

My apologies to our faithful visitors; lately life has been interfering with my writing time. That said, perhaps I may redeem myself slightly by placing in front of you a new short piece. It isn’t an origin story in the vein of Top of the Charts for Constance Sorrow or Twilight On The Mountain for Twilight Huntress.

The Vakony Combine was first referred to obliquely by Constance Sorrow in her origin story.  The Vakony are one of the largest and most influential organizations in the Jagged Earth and in Aurora City particularly. Like most large-scale criminal endeavors, their efforts are rarely turned to the betterment of Aurora City’s inhabitants. However, generalizations about the Jagged Earth rarely illuminate the entire picture. So, please enjoy this short introduction to one of my favorite denizens of Aurora City:

The Daughter In Red

2nd book: Characters

New Augments on the Block

On the heroic side of Book #2, two new characters make their debut: Psykout and Witchwolf Shaman. Returning from Orchids Ablaze are main characters (Blackhowl, Twilight Huntress, and Fyreplay), but the Lodge of the Wolf needs new blood for future tales.

On the villainous side, readers will finally meet Lord Sable of Aurora City, leader of the Shadow Sigil organization. Mentioned in Book #1, he makes his grand entrance in Book #2. Equally dangerous, if not more so, is new villain Desert Wrath from the Tuarsahzi Desert.

“Savage” Pat Savaton, quoted in a chapter heading in Orchids Ablaze, makes a cameo appearance. Not a new character, Rocquelaure’s return appearance promises to bedevil Twilight Huntress once again.

Jagged Origins Update

Origin Story Update

I’ve been working on the short pieces that I intend to share with you, kind reader, on the website. After re-reading the character origin “excerpts” for Constance Sorrow and Twilight Huntress, I fear I fractured a golden rule. It isn’t broken completely, but there’s definitely room for improvement. The Twilight on the Mountain PDF has been updated. No major changes, but I believe it has been improved.
