Anniversary

The one-year anniversary of Orchids Ablaze rolls around a few months from now. The second book will not be anywhere near ready by then. I can’t tell the story I want to, the way I want to, without taking more time than I originally thought (hoped!). I seem to experience that problem more and more as I get older: everything takes longer than anticipated. So, how should I celebrate that I did complete one book?

Firstly: New Stuff

I will concentrate on new world background material, character biographies/origins, and the underlying mythic and technological concepts used throughout Veiled Space for those readers curious about the universe, and the universe-building aspect of my writing. While an obvious focus is The Jagged Earth, Veiled Space contains more than just that one Story World. There really is a method behind all this madness. It may not make it any less mad, but at least it’s an organized madness.

And I can keep working on the next novel while still providing readers with more to read.

Secondly: Revisit Old Stuff

I haven’t decided upon the exact time frame yet, but I’m going to cut the price on Orchid’s Ablaze for an approximately 30-day window, most likely between 28 November and 25 December (Thanksgiving and Christmas since I’m North American-centric). I still have to dig through the Amazon agreements to pull the details together, but I don’t foresee a problem there.

Thirdly: Old Stuff, New Ideas

Searching through the ‘net for writing/authoring and publishing information, I found Book Cave [https://mybookcave.com]. The vast majority of my reading has always been through print books; ironically, online book resources are something I’m still researching. The Book Cave maintains a mailing list of interested readers which authors may use to disseminate information about severely discounted e-books. My words, not theirs, so I encourage you to check it out for yourself!

It’s a way to connect to new readers and an opportunity for editorial review. The catch? To be considered for promotion, a book needs 10-20 reviews and my first book doesn’t have those. So, consider this encouragement to post your review of Lodge of the Wolf Book #1 on Amazon! Since you’ve already read it, you probably won’t be taking advantage of the discounted price for yourself, but perhaps you have a friend that needs a short read over the holidays. There is an advantage for you too, though. If you enjoyed Orchids Ablaze, then the more copies I sell, the more likely the second and third (and even more!) are to be written!

I believe we used to refer to that as a “shameless plug”.
