The First Book
I hope that I’m not that unusual in having second thoughts. The most frustrating second thought is finding better ways to say what I wanted to say in the first book! And finding mistakes in the first book, but that’s relatively easy to fix thanks to the magic of online publishing. Perhaps I can go back to it one day and create the “author’s version” with added material.
After the 2-year anniversary I may try a different cover. I’m afraid I made the classic mistake of “Wow, I think that looks really cool!” as opposed to a 2nd and/or 3rd opinion, so I’m looking for a cover artist that I like to revamp the 1st book.
The Second Book
The first Lodge of the Wolf arc was designed as 3 stories. Orchids Ablaze is actually the 2nd book in the arc. I do wonder if, rather than continuing the arc, I should build a completely different story in a different genre. I’ve got the material and background info ready to go. So the “second thought” is whether or not it would be better to have 2 books in different genres to spread out to a larger audience? Or would it lose readers if Rocq and company had to wait some time for their next hour in the sun?
Something completely different
My S3 friends suggested a book of short pieces and publish it under the rules that allow me to print copies for sale outside of Amazon. Then I can take those to shows, if I ever get up the courage. I have already put a few of those short pieces (or “Still Life” pieces as I call them) up for visitors to the website, so I have a base to work from. The problem is, of course, time. Writing Still Life pieces is time added to publishing the 2nd novel-length book.
Decisions, decisions
Current course of action is concentrating on the 2nd book and shifting to short stories as I hit snags or roadblocks is a possibility. We’ll see if that gets me the most “keepable” words down on paper (or into electrons)! After all, that’s really what I’m here for.
