Keeping Score 2020 v1.3

Exciting news!

As I have discovered over and over again, most things take longer than it appeared during planning. That said, Orchids Ablaze is available now in paperback! A little behind my early April goal. but Amazon’s internal review is complete and it can be ordered online. Cover price is $7.99. That doesn’t provide much room for profit, but I wanted to make the story available to as wide an audience as possible. The entire process has been very much (yet another) learning experience, but one I hope to repeat for the second book in the Lodge of the Wolf series.

Speaking of…

Work on Book 2 advances! I finished up the 2nd rewrite of Chapter 1 and the first version of Chapter 2. In keeping with my design philosophy for this book, Chapter 2 is divided into 3 sections, but kept together as a single chapter. The jury is still out on whether or not that construct will survive the entire process; it feels very strange when I review it.

The outline for the full story following the “new” paradigm stretches to about 24 chapters. That includes the “bridge” and “interlude” style sections that typically run to fewer words. Not including chapters only roughly sketched in, the story is hovering right around 7000 words now.

Progress proceeds!

I'm on my 5th or 6th career depending on how you count them, but ideally this one will be my last with the kind help of our readers. I've traveled to several states across the U.S., but the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina will always be where I'm most comfortable. I've been an avid reader of comics for more years than I'm going to mention, but I return time after time to the old pulps. Obviously the Doc Savage books have been a tremendous influence. There's just something about seeing and hearing those characters in your mind's eye, just the way YOU, as the reader, think they should be.. I've been writing poems, lyrics and stories of varying quality since I was in my teens, which means most of my archives are on paper in three-ring binders! I've been creating characters in various RPG systems for at least that long. I've always thought characters made the story: good characters can live on through story after story. It wasn't until the last 6 or 7 years that I felt I could write characters well enough to be engaging. You'll have to let me know how I'm doing.
